About the Author
Hugh Lofting was born in 1886 in England. He later moved to the United States, where he attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology to study civil engineering. During WWI, he served in the Irish Guards. Because he did not want to tell his children about the brutality of the fighting in his letters, he wrote them stories instead. These stories became the basis for the popular "Doctor Dolittle" novels. He was wounded in the war, and moved to CT, where he passed away in September 1947.
