Books & Brews Event Series - Poetry Slam!

May 20th - 6-8 pm

Off the Beaten Path will host a poetry slam the third Wednesday of every month. Please join us!

Share your original poetry with a supportive audience and compete to win. What is poetry slam? Good question! According to Poetry Slam, Inc. it is “the competitive art of performance poetry that puts a dual emphasis on writing and performance."

We’ll be serving Butcherknife Beers on tap to provide those who are of legal drinking age a bit of liquid confidence, but the slam is open to competitors and spectators of all ages.

SLAM RULES:

• Poets should sign up ahead of time (email Emily - ekatz@steamboatbooks.com or show up at 5:30pm to put your name on the list).  
• Poets perform their original work and are judged on a scale of 1-10 by 3 members of the audience, randomly selected by the host. Top poets will advance to the second round.
• Each poet gets three minutes per round and must not use props, costumes, or instruments.
• Please come prepared with three poems, in case we have to break a tie!

The champion receives poetic bragging rights, our admiration, and a $10 OTBP gift card.
