Chris Dombrowski author of Body of Water @ BWML

Library Author Series: Chris Dombrowski

Monday, January 9th - 6:30 pm

Spend an evening at the library with Chris Dombrowski, the award-winning writer who Outside Magazine calls "the fly fishing poet," talking about his new book, Body of Water: a sage, a seeker, and the world's most alluring fish.

About the Book: "Which Chris Dombrowski you know depends on whether you spend more time fishing or reading," says Outside. "Those that fish will know him as one of Montana’s finest guides—his clients include David James Duncan and Jim Harrison. But the one thing he does better than read a river is write poems." Body of Water is about the journey that lead Dombrowski to the Bahamas; to its most elusive and highly prized creature, the bonefish; and to David Pinder, the legendary fisherman who created an industry. Part fishing hagiography, part ecology, and part elegy, Body of Water is a tribute to a man, a place and a particularly beguiling fish, written in prose as immersive and crystalline as the waters of the Caribbean itself.

About the Author: Chris Dombrowski is the author of Body of Water and two collections of poems, By Cold Water, a Poetry Foundation bestseller, and Earth Again, which was named runner-up for Foreword Magazine’s Book of the Year in Poetry. His poetry and nonfiction have been widely published in leading journals and magazines, including Poetry, The Sun, Orion and Angler’s Journal. Born in Michigan, Dombrowski earned his MFA from the University of Montana. He lives in Missoula, where he is a fly-fishing guide and director of the 406 Writers’ Workshop and the Beargrass Writing Retreat. Dombrowski’s second work of nonfiction, tentatively titled The Nature of Wonder, is forthcoming.

About the Library Author Series: Bud Werner Memorial Library presents an ongoing program of author talks throughout the year. These are free community events held in Library Hall, where a diverse award-winning range of visiting authors speak about their literary works and their writing processes. Each talk is followed by a Q&A and an opportunity to have authors sign copies of their books. Books will be available for sale and author signing courtesy of Off the Beaten Path Bookstore.

This community talk is free.
