In my opinion this book is a must read for men and women alike. The husband and wife reporting team that wrote this book highlight stories of different women making a difference around the globe. I think Angelina Jolie says it best on the back of the book, “These stories show us the power and resilience of women who would have every reason to give up but never do. They will be an inspiration for anyone who reads this book, and a model for those fighting for justice around the world…” I felt shocked to read about the oppression that is still present in third world countries. I almost felt hopeless but at the end of the book Nicholas and Sheryl list all of the charities and organizations that anyone can use as a resource to engage themselves in international women’s communities. For example a program called Girls Be Ambitious gives young Cambodian Women $10 a month for staying in school. This way families that are desperate for money are less likely to sell their daughters to. This book will shed light on this horrifying reality and inspire you to be part of the solution.

You need to have a certain brand of humor to enjoy Sarah Silverman’s new book, The Bedwetter. It is a hilarious tribute to anyone out there that had a rough childhood and wants to laugh about it now. As a reader you get insight to her hilarity and begin to understand her sense of humor a little better! Her feature story is about her bedwetting career. She made me giggle as I read through the paragraph about her first sleepover and I laughed right out loud when I read about her childhood camping days. Her life wasn’t all giggles though – Sarah also suffered from depression as a teen and goes into detail about the tough times in her life as well. With each story I was captured by the reality behind her comedy.

John San’t Ambrogio is a very enthusiastic public speaker.  The stories he tells from his new book, The Day I Almost Destroyed the Boston Symphony, are lively and entertaining. His voice comes through very strong in his writing. It makes reading his book feel like you are listening to his stories live. He allows the reader to laugh with him about all of the greatest  (and most embarrassing) moments in his career. He perfectly chose the stories in this book to highlight his career as a cellist – they weave together perfectly so that the reader is allowed true insight to his life.
It’s a tell-all account! You do not have to be a music lover to love this read!

Anita Diamant has done it again! This incredible work of fiction is written much differently from her first book, The Red Tent, but still transports the reader to a different era! The story follows the lives of four women who are survivors of the Holocaust. By the end of the book you will be inspired by each of the women and their impressive will to survive and nurture each other through each devastating memory.

Dave Cullen’s account of the tragedy at Columbine is the most eye-opening reporting I have ever read. His reporting on the people, the school, and the community spans from years before the event to years after. He not only goes into minute by minute detail of the day of the murders but he also explains the psyche behind the two boys who were responsible.  He gets you to understand the boys and the community’s reaction. You will finish this book haunted by all of the characters in the Columbine Community -  I am still processing in my head all of the information that I learned reading this Helter Skelter like account.

If E! Entertainment didn’t sell you on Chelsea Handler’s comic genius then this book certainly will. Each chapter is a different story from Chelsea’s past that is described with such hilarity that you are forced to giggle out loud while reading. My personal favorite is her recount of the summer she spent as an entrepreneurial  teenager on Martha’s Vineyard. Her wit and flawless writing makes your palms sweat as you wait to hear the outcome of each story. You will be sad when the book is over, but… not to fret, her second book, My Life Horizontal is just as funny!

This book was written by my all time favorite reporter – Sal Paolantonio. This book opened my eyes to why men are so excited by the sport – American Men in particular. This book gives an easy to understand explanation of how Football has helped to define American Culture. It also takes popular culture references and gives parallels to the sport. The heroes in football can be likened to popular male heroes like Luke Skywalker.  The excitement of gaining territory on the field is a parallel to basic human nature of pursuing property and looking for the next adventure. This book is a great read especially for those interested in psychology and history.
