Still To Come:
Mark Spragg - August 20
Mark Spragg hails from Wyoming, and his books are a significant contribution to the literature of the West. Recognized by the Mountains and Plains Independent Bookstore Association, his books tell the story of people, ranching and the land, and resonate with the Yampa Valley.Mark Spragg broke on the national scene 6 years ago with his third novel, An Unfinished Life, widely acclaimed and made into a popular movie starring Morgan Freeman and Robert Redford. Now the main characters return in Bone Fire, a mysterious, deep and dark story of renewal.
Mark's first work, Where Rivers Change Direction, a memoir, won the Mountains and Plains Independent Booksellers Association Award.
Mark will lecture at a writers workshop as part of the Steamboat All Arts Festival (3-4:30PM), and then will give a reading and sign books at Off the Beaten Path (5-7PM).
Tickets are required for both events. Tickets ($10) for the Reading and Signing at Off the Beaten Path are available now and are redeemable (with attendance) for $7.50 book credit and a glass of wine. New Addition!
Mitch Tobin - August 28, 5PM
In Endangered: Biodiversity on the Brink, award winning journalist Mitch Tobin goes to the front lines of the battle for endangered species, using the American Southwest as a case study for the successes and failures of one of the toughest laws in the United States. "Drawing on his experience as a journalist covering some of the Southwest’s hottest endangered species controversies, Tobin addresses the numerous challenges faced by endangered species, from forest fires to global climate change from invasive species to illegal immigration. While he clearly recognizes the importance of saving species from extinction, Tobin challenges our assumptions of who the good guys and the bad guys are by drawing compelling portraits of government officials, ranchers, loggers environmentalists, and politicians struggling to balance the needs of endangered species with the ever-growing demands of modern American life." -Bob Irvin, Senior Vice President for Conservation Programs, Defenders of Wildlife.
This program, which is Co-Sponsored with Yampatika, presents a wonderful opportunity for a conversation about biodiversity and the environment in our Yampa Valley, and we are pleased to have Mitch Tobin join us for this event.
Missed but not forgotten!:
John Sant'Ambrogio - May 2
John Sant'Ambrogio is known and loved
throughout Steamboart for his intimate concerts, broad smile and
engaging story telling. Now this noted Principal Cellist of the
Steamboat Symphony Orchestra and former cellist of major symphony
orchestras introduces his book How I Almost Destroyed the Boston
Sympohony Orchestra and Other Stories, accompanying his stories with
musical selections. This is a rare opportunity for a behind the scenes

Brady Udall - June 3
Brady Udall, who visits us from Boise, ID, is
the author of The Miracle Life of Edgar Mint, and Letting
Loose the Hounds.
Brady Udall's latest work, The
Lonely Polygamist, has been described as Dickensian, a rich
evocative character study. A most unusual story of what might be
described as the mid-life crisis of a man with four wives and 28
children, Udall skillfully crafts a surprisingly emotional story. Torn
by the expectations of his Church, his wives, his children, his peers,
Golden Richards fights to keep "it all together," or at least to keep it
from failling apart. It is a poignant story about people you come to
know intimately. Hearing Brady talk about how he conceived these
characters, and this story, will be unforgettable.
Time to be announced.
Tickets $10; redeemable (with attendance) for $7.50 book credit, on sale
now. Call the Bookstore, or purchase online for pickup at
or before the event.
Christina Olds - June 19
Robin Olds lived the last years
of his life in Steamboat, in the mountains he came to love. But before
that he was the quintessential fighter pilot, and Fighter
Pilot: The Memoirs of Legendary Ace Robin Olds is his memoir.
He left the pieces of his memoir to his daughter to edit and publish,
and she has done so brilliantly, creating the story of a most unusual
and dedicated man. Robin Olds enrolled in West Point in World War II,
graduating in time to fly P-51s over Europe, escorting bombers and
engaging in air to ground combat. Twenty years later he went back into
combat flight in Vietnam, leading more than 100 missions over North
Vietnam. He was a brilliant flyer and a devoted miliatry commander, a
true one of a kind spirit. That spirit comes through loud and clear in
this riveting account.
