Dragonflight is the first novel in the Dragonriders of Pern Saga.  I recently reread these novels after many years and I devoured them just as voraciously as I did then.  These books follow a feudal-type society on a far planet that relies on different varieties of dragons to protect them from an ancient threat. The deadly threads that fall from the sky devour any organic matter they come in contact with, and they’ve been forgotten for far too long. Enter Lessa, who is an outcast from Pern’s strict hierarchy in every way, but whose psychic bond with a great fire-breathing dragon may be their only hope of survival.  Dragonflight is the first in the original trilogy of Pern, and the mythology of McCaffrey’s world is so rich and vibrant that readers will fall into these pages with the same devotion that inspires readers of George R.R. Martin and J.R.R. Tolkien. This is a seminal work that is not to be missed!

Description

Volume I of The Dragonriders of Pern®, the groundbreaking series by master storyteller Anne McCaffrey

On a beautiful world called Pern, an ancient way of life is about to come under attack from a myth that is all too real. Lessa is an outcast survivor—her parents murdered, her birthright stolen—a strong young woman who has never stopped dreaming of revenge. But when an ancient threat to Pern reemerges, Lessa will rise—upon the back of a great dragon with whom she shares a telepathic bond more intimate than any human connection. Together, dragon and rider will fly . . . and Pern will be changed forever.
