Astrophysics for People in a Hurry (Hardcover)
I am a huge Neil DeGrasse Tyson fan, so when I saw this arrive at Off The Beaten Path I was so excited to read it and it is just as amazing as I had hoped! If you are familiar with COSMOS the TV show reboot that Tyson hosts you are familiar with the “Celestial Calendar” that he travels along. Well, this book follows the same journey. Tyson takes us on a journey from the very beginning of our universe (January 1st) to the big bang (4 seconds into the calendar) to the formation of the milky way (2 weeks into the celestial calendar) to our present day (December 31st at midnight). Throughout, he breaks down the scientific aspects of life such as photons, quarks and light years, in a way that most cosmophiles or astrophiles could understand. If you’re in a hurry and interested in the cosmos check this book out!
If you enjoy this book you may also enjoy Cosmos and Pale Blue Dot by Carl Sagan. This is available as both an E-book and an Audiobook read by Tyson himself!

Warning! This is not for the faint of heart. Much like Astrophysics for Young People in a Hurry, this book breaks down the complicated subject of astrophysics into something that is a little more easily digestible. However, this could be considered a dense read for some. Also, there are no pictures in this one. You definitely should have “casually science-d” in your life before tackling this book. I do not recommend that you rush through this book, and maybe even pace yourself over some time so you can mull it all over.

The essential universe, from our most celebrated and beloved astrophysicist.

While you wait for your morning coffee to brew, for the bus, the train, or a plane to arrive, Astrophysics for People in a Hurry will reveal just what you need to be fluent and ready for the next cosmic headlines: from the Big Bang to black holes, from quarks to quantum mechanics, and from the search for planets to the search for life in the universe.
