If you wonder what the Black Lives Matter is all about, then you MUST read this book! And if this true account doesn't fill you with rage, then you must not be breathing! I am irate! I am shaken to the core by the unfairness of our criminal justice system, and how unaware I was of the extent of this disparity.
Bryan Stevenson, a young, Black, intelligent, passionate lawyer keeps beating the drum of justice, defending those most desperate; poor people of color, men, women, children and those on Death Row. The account of Stevenson's many cases clearly shows how broken and corrupt up our legal system is. A guilty White man has a better chance that an innocent Black man.
This book has been made into a movie, which I have not seen yet, but the book in itself is very powerful, a MUST read!

“The history of incarceration in America is deeply colored by our history of racism and poverty. Stevenson's work providing legal aid to death row inmates exposes truly inhumane, unjust practices and astonishing legal carelessness often fueled by outright prejudice. Just Mercy does not stop at reportage, but examines the costs to the individual, the family, the community, and society at large of these practices. This is a powerful book about one man's efforts to address injustice and a clarion call for reform not just for those imprisoned, but for a society that has lost its way.”
