Dreamland: A Novel By Nicholas Sparks Cover Image
$28.99
ISBN: 9780593449554
Availability: On Our Shelves Now
Published: Random House - September 20th, 2022

Two strangers, each with their own storylines, meet while on vacation, and an unexpected love story begins. This is a fast-paced story, similar to a roller coaster ride of emotions, and the unpredictable ending will surprise you! Bi-polar disease is respectfully portrayed within the pages of this story. Nicholas Sparks again presents us with a story that can make you smile, make you tear up, and keep your interest until the very last chapter. (You won’t believe it!)

Gilded Mountain: A Novel By Kate Manning Cover Image
$28.00
ISBN: 9781982160944
Availability: On Our Shelves Now
Published: Scribner - November 1st, 2022

Gilded Mountain takes place in a marble mining town in Colorado in the early 1900s. The author was inspired to write the novel after finding a photograph connecting her own family to the Colorado Yule Monument Company which supplied marble to the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. The novel explores the working conditions in the mine, the early organization of unions in the state, and the founding of an all-black community in eastern Colorado. In addition to the rich history of the 1900s in Colorado, it is also a story of a young girl trying to find her way in a men’s world surrounded by the brutal yet beautiful environment of the Rocky Mountains. This is the second book I have read this year about early Colorado history, and I am fascinated by learning more about this state that I love.

When I Sing, Mountains Dance: A Novel By Irene Solà Cover Image

This is one of the most beautiful novels I have ever read. It felt like reading a piece of art-- like a painting or sculpture. This book is originally written in Catalan, and it amazes me that a translated work can still hold so much beauty and meaning in each word. The stories within the novel themselves are also very compelling and fun to read.  These stories give voice, character and appreciation to the surrounding natural environment, which helped me to look outward and form a better connection with the natural Earth that makes up my home. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking to sit back and really appreciate books as a form of art.

Published: Other Press - January 31st, 2012

This will be my third read and review of this touching book. Why? Because it’s my all-time favorite, and the third book of the trilogy has now been released! I’ve recommended this book to customers who are looking for a good read, and they often come back to tell me how much they’ve enjoyed it. So, for those who haven’t read it, now is your time. You won’t be disappointed!

Julia Win travels to Burma in search of the father who abandoned her family, and this is where the Western culture clashes with the Buddhist Eastern culture. She will learn the story of her father, a love story so unconventional, so strong, a love story that is both heart-warming and heart-wrenching. Believe me, the reader will be captivated by these characters and their story. I loved the Buddhist wisdom sprinkled throughout this story, which is still churning within me!

Sea Prayer By Khaled Hosseini Cover Image

ISBN: 9780525539094
Availability: On Our Shelves Now
Published: Riverhead Books - September 18th, 2018

This short, yet inspirational illustrated book is a remarkable response to the refugee crisis, worldwide. Written by Hosseini, author of The Kite Runner, the book was inspired by the death of a young Syrian refugee child whose body washed up on shore as he tried to escape. In my opinion, this is a book that would benefit all of us, children as well, as we come to understand the forces that drive families to flee their countries and the terrible grief that accompanies their leaving.  Hosseini writes powerful words in only a few pages! It really makes you think about what people have gone through to survive.

Fairy Tale By Stephen King Cover Image
$32.50
ISBN: 9781668002179
Availability: On Our Shelves Now
Published: Scribner - September 6th, 2022

I absolutely love fantasy novels, it’s my favorite genre to read: so when Fairy Tale came into the bookstore, I was immediately intrigued! The cover art hooked me right away (and I know I know, never judge a book by its cover, but we all do it), and I knew it was something I was interested in reading. And then I saw that it was by Stephen King…Nothing against King, he’s one of the absolute best, but he’s known for horror and mystery and I just don't typically enjoy that. But after deciding to give it a try, I am so happy I did! I’m not even finished with it, but it reads much more like a classic fantasy, than a horror mystery- which really works for me.

It follows a teenage boy named Charlie Reade, who struggles because he has to handle too much: his mother passed away in a hit-and-run accident, leaving him to take care of his despondent father slipping into alcoholism, all while trying to graduate high school. Enter Radar, a big beautiful, aging, sweetheart of a dog, and her owner Howard Bowditch, whom Charlie meets when helping Mr. Bowditch after a fall. When Charlie inherits a home, a dog,  a portal to a parallel magical world, and entirely too much responsibility, the journey truly begins!

For those who want a deep, complex world and a solidly good read with some ‘Hunger Games’ like adventure-this one is for you!

I love an enemies-to-lovers story.  Fake dating trope? Yes, please! I’m obsessed with modern adaptations of classic tales. So this retelling of my favorite Shakespeare comedy Much Ado About Nothing popped up on my radar and I immediately said “sign me up!”  I was not disappointed.  Funny and charming, Jamie and Bea are oil and vinegar at first glance, but of course after getting a closer look at each other they may just be the perfect fit.  I just really loved this story.  It sparked joy and definitely had me feeling the love. Absolutely for a romcom beginner or a romance vet!

Dragonflight: Volume I in The Dragonriders of Pern By Anne McCaffrey Cover Image
$8.99
ISBN: 9780345335463
Availability: Usually Ships in 1-5 Days
Published: Del Rey - May 12th, 1986

Dragonflight is the first novel in the Dragonriders of Pern Saga.  I recently reread these novels after many years and I devoured them just as voraciously as I did then.  These books follow a feudal-type society on a far planet that relies on different varieties of dragons to protect them from an ancient threat. The deadly threads that fall from the sky devour any organic matter they come in contact with, and they’ve been forgotten for far too long. Enter Lessa, who is an outcast from Pern’s strict hierarchy in every way, but whose psychic bond with a great fire-breathing dragon may be their only hope of survival.  Dragonflight is the first in the original trilogy of Pern, and the mythology of McCaffrey’s world is so rich and vibrant that readers will fall into these pages with the same devotion that inspires readers of George R.R. Martin and J.R.R. Tolkien. This is a seminal work that is not to be missed!

This book was everything I was hoping for and more! A cozy read about an orc named Viv who trades mercenary work for opening her own coffee shop in a town that has never heard of such a thing. She makes countless unlikely friendships and begins to understand herself better in the process! A great read for cozying up under a blanket with a cup of coffee in hand during the winter months. I would recommend this to anyone who needs a little break from reality but isn’t in the mood for an action-packed fantasy and instead craves a warm and fuzzy adventure about running a small business! Except your customers include elves and other in-human folks instead!

Zen and the Art of Saving the Planet By Thich Nhat Hanh Cover Image

Published: HarperOne - October 4th, 2022

While this book is about the importance of “saving the planet,” I was left with hope and encouragement rather than doom and despair. Thich Nhat Hanh helps open your eyes to the connectedness of self and nature and everything that the Earth is composed of. Mindfulness is a huge aspect in being able to understand the importance of the world around us. The only way to be able to help outwardly is to look inward and understand ourselves. This book has taught me that the Earth is as much dependent on me as I am on the Earth.

There is something about poetry that is endlessly attractive to me. Here, Momaday draws on many sources of inspiration, like nature, friendship, his own indigenous heritage, love, and many other fundamental human experiences to write pieces that truly speak to his readers. His words make it clear that while people might not always speak like this, they often think like it. These poems are at once material and effervescent, grounding and fantastical.  Sitting down to this little book left me feeling my humanity a little more tangibly, and seeing colors a touch more vibrantly. Momaday writes poetry that inspires his readers to be more poetic.

I have enjoyed many of Thich Nhat Hanh’s books, and I love being able to read his thoughts in a new way, through poetry. The poems in this collection reveal the inner feelings, struggles, and daily ponderings of Thich Nhat Hanh’s brain, and I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate this remarkable teacher’s time on

It’s also a perfect reminder for the rest of us that it really doesn’t matter what we wear, or what color we like, what matters is loving someone for who they are, and the importance of kindness. It’s such a heartwarming book based on a true story of a fabulous little boy who LOVES to wear dresses simply because they are pretty and whose favorite color is pink! It also has gorgeous abstract illustrations by Suzanne DeSimone. It’s a great work of art that the whole family can enjoy.
